1.  Approval of Minutes: The Minutes of the Meeting held on July 22, 2014 were accepted as submitted.

2.  Traffic Islands:  The considerable work completed on the Washington Street Islands by hard working volunteers was noted and appreciated. The status of Islands and their sponsors was reviewed.   A list of the Island areas that are cleaned but not sponsored is to be created.  A list of the names of all Committee volunteers is to be made.  The significant efforts being made to beautify Bridge Street were noted.

3.  The maintenance of the Active Duty Service Island by Committee members was addressed, as well as the availability of a new potential sponsor for the island.

4.  A grant has been given to a Salem community association to upgrade the Captain Driver Park Island near the Essex Street Witch House.

5.  Mill Street:  A sponsor has been found for the Milk Street  island.  Concern was raised that the development of the island could be more costly than usual. Alternative financial sources were considered.  It was suggested to obtain opinions about the development of the island from knowledgeable individuals.

6.  SATV TV:  Appreciation was extended to the member of the Committee who represented us on Counselor Bill LeGault’s SATV Community Round Table show which was broadcast in August.

7. Competitions: The City wide Window Box competition plus the Traffic Island competition results were reviewed as was the Awards event itself.  It was suggested that with planning there could be a reenergizing of the process and the event.  Steps will be taken to work with the Garden Club on such a project.

8. The Committee:  The Face Book page is being developed.  Discussion focused on a Logo, marketing, branding, acknowledging volunteers, and newspaper notices.  Activities, events, tours featuring the “Lady of Salem” were highlighted.

9.  The many successful activities and events involving the Lady of Salem were discussed including the Essex Street pedestrian Fair and the antique boat show.  Future events include a Sails and Trails self guided tour and the appearance of the “traveling Lady” at a House of 7 Gables fundraiser this fall.

A Motion to adjourn was proposed and allowed.  The meeting adjourned at 8:37 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Judith Wolfe
